Total Control - Green Coffee Bean Extract (60 Count)
Metabolic Research Center's Total Control is a smart combination of Green Coffee Bean Extract, Rhodiola and InSea2. This triple threat may help to boost your metabolism, better manage stress and the harmful effects of high stress, and block some of the starches you eat from being absorbed.
Starches are long chains of sugar molecules (the fact that the molecules are in chains is why they don’t taste sugary-sweet). The thing about starches is that they cannot be directly burned for energy by the human body (meaning their calories cannot be utilized in their starch form). However, starting in the mouth (and continuing in the small intestine), an enzyme (alpha-amylase) breaks the starch chains down into shorter chains (called oligosaccharides). Then, a set of enzymes (alpha-glucosidases) break down these oligosaccharides into sugar molecules that can now be burned for energy, or stored as fat for later use.
If you could somehow block those enzymes from breaking down the starch, you could then actually eat starches, and not have to handle those calories.
As it happens, there are two species of brown seaweed (specialized forms of algae) that selectively and effectively inhibit both enzymes discussed above. They’ve also been shown to be well tolerated with no side effects, even in doses far higher than what’s needed for the blocking effect.
Right off we saw the need for such extracts, and finding them to be both tested, and available, we grabbed 'em. As it happens, the testing on these plant products shows them to be far superior to better-known starch blockers such as kidney bean extract, high viscosity fiber, and other algae extracts.
Though such an idea seemed really cool to us here at Metabolic Research Center, we like to be ‘shotgunners’, meaning we try to cover as many bases as possible, to assure that our products have the very best chance to succeed in any given effort. This purpose-driven philosophy pushes us to combine complementary ideas wherever possible, and our Metabolic Total Control is no exception.
To our enzyme-blockers, we next added Green Coffee Bean Extract. This is not your typical effect of regular black coffee, which contains a compound associated with the negative effects of using coffee as a stimulant. Green coffee beans (and their extract) don’t contain it. Metabolic Research Center's Total Control is a smart combination of Green Coffee Bean Extract, Rhodiola and InSea2. This triple threat may help to boost your metabolism, better manage stress and the harmful effects of high stress, and block some of the starches you eat from being absorbed.
However, its benefits don’t stop there: the supplement is also known to contain polyphenols that can act as antioxidants to help reduce free radical damage from reactive oxygen molecules in the body (did you know that oxygen is a double-edged sword that can do damage as well as good?). Green coffee bean extract is sort of an ‘insurance policy’ against free radical damage. Add that to its known potential fat-burning effect and you have a supplement we felt we just had to include in our Metabolic Total Control.
Even then, we still couldn’t stop. Once we got into the research on a remarkable herb called Rhodiola rosea, it quickly became clear that we needed more. The rhodiola plant grows primarily in the Arctic regions of eastern Siberia, and is popular in traditional medical systems in Eastern Europe and Asia. In Russia, rhodiola tea has been used for centuries as an energy booster and anti-depressant, while Chinese scientists have researched the benefits of the root for several decades.
What has come out of those studies is that the root extract of Rhodiola rosea is classed as an ‘adaptogen’, meaning it helps the body handle stress (of any type, be it chemical, biological or physical). This is important to those interested in losing weight, because the body’s response to stress is the release of cortisol (an adrenal hormone) as part of the body’s ‘fight-or-flight’ response to stress. This is a good thing, usually, as part of that mechanism includes the rapid production of glucose for use as energy (for all that fighting or flighting!).
However, should the body remain in a high-stress state for too long (or, perhaps, constantly?), there’s too much glucose hanging around, with the extra amount efficiently stored as...you guessed it...fat. An adaptogen helps the body regulate the stress response, so that the body can handle the day’s stresses without stimulating too much cortisol.
Among both traditional peoples and athletes alike, this herb is valued as a strengthening tonic to increase physical and mental stamina.
So, instead of a roundhouse punch of blocking starch calories, we decided to make our newest product a one-two punch by adding fat-burning (plus antioxidant protection); then, we turned it into a one-two-three knockout slammer by also including a stress-fighting/cortisol-controlling adaptogen.
It just doesn’t get much better than that. Metabolic Research Center’s Total Control!
